Multiple Clipboards and HomeSite

Somewhere along the way, (Office 2000 I think), Microsoft got the bright idea to have a multiple clipboard widget that allows you to copy mutiple items into memory and then selectively paste them between any Office application. Needless to say, I don’t think they got it right.

I don’t know a single user (advanced or otherwise) who finds this feature useful. Here is a link that explains how to disable the multiple-clipboard in office for those of you who haven’t gone through the trouble of tracking it down.

Macromedia’s Homesite on the other hand, comes much closer, but still misses the mark when it comes to the multi-clipboard. The good thing is that they do not constantly try to popup the clipboard everytime you copy something. I’ve setup a custom shortcut key [CTR-SHIFT-V] to the “ShowClipBoard’ command and now when I’m coding and I need to paste something I get something like this:

It’s not bad, but it could be so much better if I didn’t have to use my mouse to mouseover each icon and see what each entry is. I’d love to see them incorporate something like this instead:

Simple, powerful and fast. That’s what an editor should be and for the most part I’m extremely happy with Homesite. I’ve been a die-hard user since version 2.0 and I’m hoping that Macromedia continues expanding on the product, although I’ve got my doubts, since they didn’t create an “MX” release.
