Synthetic (cultured) Diamonds
This month’s Wired has a cover article on synthetic diamonds. I thought it was pretty interesting and I remembered seeing a PBS-NOVA program called The Diamond Deception a few years ago. After reading the Wired article and doing some googling, I found a few interesting links.
DucatiGuy’s post asking for potential investers in man-made diamonds at the DiamondTalk forums (2001-07-16). This is probably the owner of Gemesis, Carter Clarke.
More synthetic diamond discussions and a little bit of nanotech thrown in for good measure.
The AGTA GemFair in Tucson is scheduled for February 4-9, 2004. Will there be any synthetic diamonds on display?
Not really about synthetics, but Anil Dash has a good rant called Diamonds are for never.
Synthetic diamonds might be more important in the long run when the posibilities of new technologies made with diamond material are an economic reality. I’m not talking about the typical diamond bladed saws. I’m talking about diamond microchips. That will be wild, and this all gets tied together in my head by one of my favorite sci-fi books: The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson.
