Track Season (short 9 year absence)

A short while ago I mentioned that I was going to try to get back into the best shape of my life. The “best shape of my life” was sometime after my senior year in high school. I was planning on being a decathlete/pole vaulter for University of Cincinnati track and field team.

Sometime between summer conditioning and my first few weeks of freshman classes I made a decision; I was not going to have a career in Track-n-Field, but these computer things sure are cool. That was the end of my 5 year obsession with all things Track-n-Field.

Fast-forward 9 years and you have a burnt-out geek move across country, take a job at an outdoor retail store and start looking for any excuse to get and stay outdoors and away from these damned computers. We’ll… I’ve found the perfect excuse.

Pole Pilots

Monday and Thursday evenings you’ll now find my incredible wife and I hurling ourselves down the runway with 13-15 foot poles in hopes of making the perfect plant, the perfect rock-back and then the perfect extention-turn-and-release.

I’m in heaven~!

I don’t know if this obsession will last as long as the one before it, but I’m probably going to get semi-serious about it next season (starting with fall conditioning). For now, I’m having a blast re-learning/un-learning some of my old habits. I’m still working out, but I haven’t committed to a serious phased training plan yet. That will probably wait until fall. Jenny and I have got a lot of ideas for activities this summer.

Stay tuned for results from my first “meet”, Sat. May 22nd.

Oops, "vaulting" I know how you people are on spelling.

Wow! Does this mean that Jenny's going to learn to vault?

Tentatively yes - Jenny is going to learn the vault. She sorta kinda wanted to in high school but then again, she said that it may just have been from having a crush on me. :)

Chris: You've a dirty mind. I'm not looking forward to see what kind of Google searches find this page!
