SXSW Growth

I don’t know what the attendance numbers look like for this year’s conference, but I do know that it feels a lot more crowded than 2003. Already people are being turned away at certain highly-coveted panels because they fill up and are probably beyond the fire code capacity limits. I don’t know for sure.

Right now I’m in the back row of the “How to Make Big Things Happen with Small Teams and it is very full. Standing room only and heating up fast. We’ll see how this plays out over the next few days, but it’s clearly a problem.

a crowded SXSW panel

Otherwise, I’m here and already have met more people than I did in 2003. I’m very excited about that and if I missed a panel that I wanted to see, I’d make the best of it by finding someone to chat with and at least we could bitch about how full the conference is this year.

The size of the conference is exciting; it shows that more and more people want to get involved, learn, and network. Hopefully it will be a sign of a healthy growth for the Internet culture in general.
I do think missing a cool panel is a bummer, but like you said there are plenty of other opportunities to be had!
