A mostly pointless ramble

This is the second time this month that I’ve not posted an entry for over a week. I’m not doing to well on my very first goal of 2002. At least at the end of the year when I’ve not met my goals, I can just claim that I was drunk.

So why am I not writing. Hmm. Let’s see.

Surely there’s plenty to write about. I could comment on the Bush’s “State of the Union” speech. Nope, didn’t hear/see it. I could talk about the Enron bankruptcy debacle and how it’s currently affecting my life. Nah, it’s not (that I know of). Maybe I could spend some time waxing philosophically about the “War on Terrorism”, “War on Drugs”, “War on {insert large abstract theme here}”, but alas, I just don’t have much to say.

Other than busying myself with work and climbing, I’ve really been quite the bum lately. I started playing a computer game called Baldur’s Gate (bad idea), and now much of my time on the computer is spent trying to rack up experience points, learning new spells, and fighting little nasties called Xvarts.

Did I ever tell you about my fear of dentists?

Well, here’s the story. Jen made me promise to go to the dentist before we got married. And to most people this probably doesn’t seem like such a hard thing, but it was. Actually, I didn’t keep my promise because of a technicallity (dental insurance) and we got married anyway (shew!).

Once our joint dental insuarance kicked in, I knew I had to pay the piper. I’m ashamed to say it, but in 25 years, I had never been to the dentist. I felt like a scared 12 year old, worrying that they would pull my teeth out with pliers or drill into the side of my cheek on accident. I dreaded the day of the appointment, but my fears were soon squelched after hearing about all the new technology dentists have these days.

I’m almost glad that I didn’t go for all those years. They’ve learned a lot in that time. I’m still not very excited about going back, but I will, and some day down the road, my teeth will thank me for it.
