Then, The Big News

SXSW Interactive.

Last year, I didn’t know what it was. This year, I made up my mind to quit my job (and career), move across the country, and go back to school full-time in the fall.

At the end of seven years of self-taught web development, I’m going to go to SXSW. It will actually be my first career related conference, even though I’m soon ending that path and making way for something new (don’t know what yet).

Everything I’ve read about SXSW sounds like it is just a really cool, fun conference to attend. Because of the current economic times at work, I’m funding the trip myself. Making it a road trip from Cincinnati to Austin should help. And I’m lucky enough to have a friend (second driver) join me on the adventure. We’re going to try and do things on the cheap, so if someone that has attended before has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Like so many other SXSW first-timers, I’m excited and apprehensive at the same time. I’d like to meet some people behind many of the weblogs I read, and even more so, meet people like myself that are content posting to a weblog that very few people ever read. My attitude at this point is that I’m going to force a good time no matter what.

My current plan is to bust my butt and finish a freelance project by the first of March, then I’ll buy a digital camera as a reward and take it with me to Austin on the seventh.
