SXSW is nice. Austin is awesome.

I would talk about the conference and the people I’ve heard speak, but really I’ve been most impressed with the city of Austin. I can’t say enough good things about what I’ve seen.

Paul and I are walking about a mile from our hotel to the Austin Convention Center. The weather has been perfect. Last night we walked down 6th St. to the opening party at the GSD&M advertising agency. 6th street is like a combination of Ludlow Ave and Short Vine, but it’s four or five times as long.

We also stumbled upon another really cool street when we left our hotel the other night. I don’t know the name of it right now, but it had some cool looking restaurants, shops and bars. I also took a drive to the grocery store last night and drove down Guadalupe Street which was another cool looking street.

To top it all off, at the grocery store, the cashier asked me if I’d like some help taking my groceries to my car. I couldn’t believe it. Way too nice.

Richard Florida, who is going to give the keynote on Tuesday has ranked Austin second among the rising creative cities in America.

I’m sure there are negatives about Austin, but for this week I’ll happily live with my illusion of a perfect city.
