Our First GeoCache

Armed with two handheld GPS units, some bottled water, and a pocket full of trinkets we set off for our very first GeoCache hunt today. Our first attempt was a cache only about 1.5 miles from our home, but since I accidentally mis-entered the coordinates we left without finding it. Our next hunt was successful and I took a jumbo-die and left a super bounce ball. We found another cache a few miles away. Later in the day we learned that Steve and Deb went back to the first cache and found it. (No problem when you have the right coordinates!)

For those of you that don’t have a clue as to what I’m talking about, visit the GeoCaching FAQ for more info. It’s a really fun way to spend some time outdoors, and I could see it being a terrific activity for a family with young kids.

That sounds like so much fun! And you're right, children would love it! Makes me want to ride right out to Radio Shack and buy a GPS unit!

That does sound like fun. How much hiking do you have to do?
